5th Acupuncture Session
Today also happens to be Cotton's 8th Barkday! Coincidentally it is also our appt to the TCM vet again hah! Anyways Happy Barkday to our dear Cotton! Mom doesn't celebrate our birthdays by buying us redundant gifts because she thinks its a waste of money. She says her gifts to us are on a daily basis by spending a fortune on our organic raw food and now acupuncture as well. More meaningful and beats useless money-wasting gifts. Ok in short, she's not rice so she'd rather now spend on redundant stuff and save the money for our health and well-being instead.

4th Acupuncture Session
Nothing much today except some pix. Mom didn't bring Chewy along because she wants to keep the cost down a lil' as it's quite a big sum already.

Acupuncture for Cat
Today's Chewy's 1st acupuncture session! She behaved better than Mom and Dad expected! Just like how cats react better with Rei-ki than other animals. Quite surprising eh cuz it's usually dogs that do acupuncture.
First, Mom took Chewy next door to get the referral for acupuncture. Dr. Tay was the attending vet and all was well. Chewy licks her tummy area quite excessively til it's quite bald there and he says it could be a sign of stress. Not that it's anything bad but just like humans, some are naturally more stressed than others.
So then we proceeded to the acupuncture side and Cotton was in a room with Dad, and Mom with Chewy and me in the other room.
I was poked first followed by Chewy. Mom was quite afraid she'd feel sensitive at certain areas because Dr. Oh first poked her private part area just under the tail! So Mom kept making her comfy by sayang-ing her and all was well. After she was done poking, she inched towards the cell-plate which emits heat for our cells because cats loveee the heat so much! After she leopard-crawled under the cell-plate, she rested her head on Mom's hand throughout while I was put on the electric current to stimulate the nerves.
So Mom had one hand on Chewy and one on me to rei-ki us because acupuncture works best with rei-ki. Watch the vid below of Chewy being poked! If your cat has any issues from health to mental to behavior, try TCM acupuncture! Dr. Oh also prescribed a herbal med for Chewy for her stomach to boost appetite and hopefully to stop the excessive licking of the tummy area IF it's associated with the stomach.
No pictures of Cotton today haha! Cotton was also given another extra med! Now she has a four different types in total while I've only two, and Chewy just one. Watch how much I LOVE my herbal meds below! Mom took a sip of it and says it's pretty tasteless aside from the strong herbal scent which I totally don't mind at all! Cotton has to be force-fed it because she's quite turned-off by the smell. The capsules are made of natural glutinous rice but Mom prefers us just taking the powder alone.
Mom also learned alota TCM stuff from Dr. Oh like the yin and yang, why cats love the heat and why modern day dogs are scared of it and prefer the cold, and not to mention skin issues being suppressed with drugs instead of treating the whole body internally etc. For dogs with skin/ear or any external problems, go for acupuncture to treat the internal aspect and you will see results very quickly. It doesn't mean you need to have joint/spinal probs to do acupuncture. I think you can treat anything with acupuncture! Just like Rei-ki! And Dr. Oh is also very confident of doing it for humans with dis-ease as well because like I've mentioned before in the other post, acupuncturists that can treat animals can treat humans too. But acupuncturists who can only treat humans cannot treat animals. Dr. Oh gives TCM lectures to both doctors and vets.
Mom also told Dr. Oh that she bathes me and Cott once every 3 months when its time for our full-groom. Other than that, she doesn't shower us at all. Dr. Oh's reply was, ''ok, that's ok. I've a golden retriever client whom has never bathed his entire life, right here in singapore. He looks fantastic. Fur very waxy but very good! best is don't bathe them at all if you can!''
That's it. Mom's FAVORITE FAVORITE holistic TCM vet!

2nd Acupuncture Session
Today's our 2nd session and already the TCM vet Dr. Oh says Cotton's left leg (which happens to be her arthritic leg and weakest) is the strongest of all her legs today! That was before Mom said anything about Cotton not limping at all during her walk yesterday. Once Cott walks too long, she will start limping on her left foreleg but she was totally fine yesterday. Mom's so happy that the treatment and herbal meds are working well on her... so despite it being VERY expensive, she will continue on with the sessions and herbal meds.
Dr. Oh has also customized a herbal med for Cotton's liver for her tear stains. He says her liver is too heaty and thus resulting in the excessive tearing and staining of face. He guarantees her face will be white soon. Mom and Dad hope so too!
These meds are 100% natural from herbs and are suitable for human consumption too. Just have to consult him for the difference in dosage. So, no worries about them taxing on our organs unlike conventional drugs. I'm popping 8 caps a day while Cotton's popping 16! But Cott's dosage will be reduced to 14 caps next week. Cushla is popping 40 caps a day! But thankfully, it's starting to show results as her tumor's becoming soft. All paws and fingers crossed for Cushla! Western meds are of no hope for her nose cancer and she's given only 6 to 8 weeks to live and TCM (also recommended by the specialist) is the ONLY option to help save her life. Mom also rei-kis her alot whenever she can and during her acupuncture sessions too. Cushla's mommy has also signed up for the next Rei-ki seminar! Mom is so happy because then she will be able to receive support from her own Mom everyday.
Cotton's behavior towards Dr. Oh today was also better than the previous time. Hopefully his herbal meds for her nervousness/timidness and fear aggression is working well in calming her down and building up her self-confidence. However today, Cotton was poked while she was lying down and she stood up after Dr. Oh left the room and once she stood up, she began to feel the pain from the needles because if we're poked in a lying down position, the muscles will start contracting once we stand up and so it will feel very very painful. She screamed till we all heard her from the other room and Dr. Oh rushed back to Cotton. She bled a little on the back from one of the points, but no biggie overall. Poor Dad who was accompanying her in the other room was so shock and yet couldn't leave her side to call anyone. But no probs because Cotton is a drama-queen and she makes sure she's heard from wherever she is haha! Mom was like omg that's Cotton screams! Luckily it wasn't anything serious. She always has lotsa antics for each session! Wonder what's next...
I on the other hand am so super good as usual. Leaning my body unto Mom in the beginning and then relaxing standing on my own 5mins later after the needles were all on me. Mom's always so proud of me and I know it!

One normal vet says it feels like Luxation Patella < (lesser than) Grade 1 to him. Also no biggie for that since it's so low grade or almost non-existent. 1st Acupuncture Session (CNY Day 3)
Mom has decided to bring us for acupuncture after her friend's dog is diagnosed by a specialist with late-stage nose cancer with only 6-8 weeks to live is starting to show signs of improvement slowly.
Mom has always known my spine to be a little ''tight'' from the way I stretch so she rei-kis my back quite alot. My joints are good compared to Cotton's. So for me it's mainly for my spine. The vet who wrote the referral letter for my acupuncture also noticed the lens of my eyes to be a lil' bluish, which condition is termed as nuclear sclerosis - typical aging of the lens which does not affect sight like cataract does. And guess what, the TCM vet says acupuncture can help with my nuclear sclerosis too, which will help make my eyes brighter. For my back its the upper and lower vertebrate area issues, I think he said it is tight or loose I forgot hah! This would require twice a week sessions for a month and it will be all good.
I was so brave! Ok I was a lil' scared at first because I don't like to be at vet clinics. I kept on leaning my bod towards Mom sticking to her like glue so the TCM vet says he will poke some acu-points to help me relax. It worked! I started walking around the table exploring all his needles and what-nots haha! Mom says I'm her brave, brave girl always making her proud.
Cotton wasn't that all good. She's so timid and has fear aggression that its better to muzzle her to let her relax. The TCM vet says he will prescribe her a med (his meds are all natural herbal meds) to help build up her courage and self-confidence (like me!!) and not be so anxious and ''super active'' all the time. He is also confident of curing her tear stain issue which has been with her for so many years almost all her life. He says it is due to her liver and he will specially formulate a herbal med for her condition, which will be ready on the next visit (his meds are NOT cheap at all... Mom's really hoping it will work). Her right hind also has Luxation Patella (Grade 2), and right foreleg arthritis. It's all on her right side! So those are the issues to treat for Cotton... way more than mine. Ahhhhh... before I forget to mention it! As soon as the vet left the room to treat Mom's friend's dog... Cotton SHOOK all the needles off like Flying Dagger!! Or she must have thought since Mom likes hedgehogs... she'd try to be one! I tried to shake too but luckily only 1 or 2 needles fell off lol. I'm not a flying dagger expert like Cotton.
So to summarize the points to treat for us...
Velvet (me! Mom is glad I'm pretty much very healthy and happy overall) :
- Nuclear Sclerosis (typical aging of eye lens which does not affect sight, unlike cataract)
- Tightness of Upper and Lower Vertebrate (spinal area)
Cotton:
- Right foreleg (arthritis)
- Right hindleg (Luxation Patella Grade 2)
- Excessive tearing due to liver (treating liver to stop tearing issue for good, i hope it works!)
- Behavioral Issue (fear aggression and timidness, building up courage)

But cats too respond very very well to acupuncture (just like Usui Rei-ki) for other common conditions for them like mouth ulcers etc or even behavioral problems.
Before we forget, if you want an acupuncture session for your dog/cat, you will need a referral letter from your previous vet for EACH animal as it's a strict requirement from AVA. Mom specially went to a vet nearest to her to get it and spent $82 for both of us! The letters cost $10 each and the rest went to the consultation fees... *kinda face palm*
The bill for the first acupuncture session is also SUPER high because of the consultation fees for first-timers. After that it would be about $100+ for each session thereafter.
Actually you don't have to have problems to go for acupuncture. You can seek acupuncture for better blood circulation, boosting appetite, better sleep/alertness/behavior etc. Mom loves the TCM (ie acupuncture, chiropractic) ways because they are holistic and safe. All medications are special formulated natural herbs (customized ones available as well for individual issues) and even the capsules are made from glutinous rice!
So, Mom will be bringing us for regular acupuncture sessions even when our issues are ''solved'' just for general health maintenance.
And did you know that over here... if one is a practicing acupuncture vet, he/she is qualified to perform on humans as well, but if its the reverse (only qualified to perform on humans), then they're not allowed to perform acupuncture for animals. Interesting, isn't it.
