The Difference Between a FAST & STARVATION

Many people have misconceptions about the word ''fast'' or ''fasting''. Some have even gone to the extent of abusing these two words by havin' them confused with the word ''starvation''.
Fasting for both humans and animals have been around since, well... the world began. Animals fast for health reasons (eg detox). Animals have the knowledge to do it when it comes to their health. Great people have fasted... like Jesus Christ, Mohandas Ghandi, and in almost EVERY religion will you encounter the act of fasting. Whether it's a water-fast or a juice-fast, it is for different reasons.

Fasting is NOT suppose to cause any distress to both humans or animals. Fasting is instead, a very calm & cleansing process... a process where the body will begin to detox. Some ppl may think that since their animals are already on a raw-diet, there's no need to fast since there's no ''chemicals'' in their foods. Chemicals ARE in the foods IF they're not organic. The air we breathe everyday is polluted. These two simple reasons are reason enough for everyone to fast either once a week or to every individual's preference.

Even raw-foodists (humans eatin' ONLY Raw foods... we're raw vegans [on a plant & fruits based] diet) should go on a fast to detox our tissues & basically, our entire body as a whole.

These days, humans have been abusing the word ''fast''. Why? Because they STARVE their dogs in order for them to eat whatever that the humans want them to eat (eg the transition from a kibble brand to another kibble brand). The intention has to be correct first. If the dog/cat choose not to eat their foods (note that the animals DO NOT give two hoots about the brand. all they want and need to know is the NATURE of their foods), it's inevident that they KNOW that that food's not right for them. Dogs & cats on quality (organic) RAW foods will NEVER reject their foods (unless somethin' is wrong with their health).

So, understand the difference between a calming & beneficial fast and starvation before more harm/stress is induced unto the animals. It is good for our animals to go on a 24 hours fast probably once every week or fortnight to cleanse their bodies of any unwanted toxins from both their foods & environment. Always ensure clean water is accessible to them at all times.

Another reason to fast our animals would be when they're under the weather. Would you eat a heavy meal if you're not well? No, likewise for our animals. Not even porridge (which many vets would suggest) or broth. Porridge & broths are not even natural foods for them in the wild! Carbo is extremely difficult for carnivores to digest, much less consume them when they're sick. As for broth, well, let's just go back to nature & realize that God didn't create animals with the ability to cook their foods. They don't hunt their prey, skin them, cut them into parts, remove ''unedible'' parts, flavor them with seasonings & herbs, and boil/steam/fry/broil them.

When animals fast in the wild, all they get is water! Or maybe some simple grazing for wild cats. Porridge is only applicable in the human (cooked food) world.

So yea, I just want to help clear the air for those whom are confused with the words ''fasting'' and ''starvation''. And as well as those whom think that fasting our animals is cruel. If you do wish to fast your animals once per week or fortnight, what I'd recommend is to feed them 7 days worth of food within 6 days (if you wish to fast them once a week).

''Will you fast me for my health, or will you starve me for your convenience.''

Our Organic Raw Greens, Mom & Dad turn Raw-Vegans and More about RAW-Foodism

We're gonna blog abt our organic greens today cuz Mom & Dad had decided to become Raw (Vegan) Foodists themselves. Yes... they'll no longer be eatin' any cooked foods just like us! Just that they're omitin' the organic Raw meats/bones/eggs part (so that makes Mom & Dad Raw-Vegan Foodists while we're Organic-Raw Foodists. But our humans do try to consume as much organic stuff as possible too).

Mind you that Raw Foodists eat RAW meats (& grind the bones) from organic & healthy animals. Research a lil' about Raw Foodists & you'll know more... stuff like salmonella & E.coli etc will NOT affect Raw Foodists as long as their bodies are cleansed & detoxed before embarkin' on a Raw Diet (just like us dogs & cats!). Healthy immunity & body doesn't allow any bacteria to thrive at all. Salmonella & E.coli viruses will thrive in only unhealthy bodies with weak immunity. That is why it's so rare for raw-fed dogs to die from salmonella etc.

Yups... so since Mom & Dad have decided to only eat raw vegan foods, they've decided to invest in a good blender... They decided on the Vitamix Prep 3 which they bought at a spree price of S$1016.50 (includin' GST). And of cuz...... our organic veg will be blended with this new blender from now on too! ^^

Side-track a lil' before we share more abt our (locally grown) organic greens... local forums never fail to anger Mom regardin' raw diets for dogs.

Mom: There's this commercial ''raw'' diet which is freeze-dried (note that ANY kind of process done to raw foods = PROCESSED FOOD)  that's been promotin' themselves alot here in SG. The person whom I highly suspect IS the distributor in SG has always been promotin' this pdt in a particular forum... boastin' abt the ''quality'' of their meats even when they're not organic at all. Just because they're from NZ doesn't = ''as good as organic'' like he always claims them to be in that forum. That is VERY misleadin' to others, esp more so if they wish to learn more abt raw-feedin'. You see, I read A LOT of books regardin' factory-farms (aka battery-farms) etc & that is also how thru' my animals, I learnt abt Raw-Foodism as well.

Anyways, NZ also has lotsa battery-farms if you'd like to know... just google & you'll get all your answers if you're lazy to grab any books to read. Hence, this particular freeze-dried ''raw'' food company can jolly-well get their meat supplies from any of these battery-farms (which is definitely FARRR from being anywhere near organic)! Do these people even know what organic means? It means the land & soil must be organic, the animals' feeds must be organic & free of any GMO-feeds, animals allowed to grow at a natural rate w/o any antibiotics, vaccines, growth hormones etc which therefore means consumers have to pay a MUCH higher price for them because they can't produce as many animals as quickly as factory-farms do! Hence, if a farm (no matter in NZ or anywhere else) isn't certified organic, there is NO WAY they'll put in so much effort, time & money into their livestock!

This particular fella also loves puttin' down any other raw meats other than his own freeze-dried pdt. Sayin stuff like ''raw meats sold outside are meant to be cooked''. (oh in case you didn't know, all cooked foods are carcinogenic, yes even a plain broiled potato has 450 toxic chemicals in them thanks to COOKIN'. that is why one shld NEVER EVER cook foods for dogs & cats at all) In the first place, the joke here is that the meats that this pdt uses are from slaughterhouses that slaughter & process meats that are ''human-grade'' (if you still don't geddit, it means the meats that this pdt uses = the meats sold in supermarkets).

This fella then goes on sayin' his dogs had loose stools when they were on raw meats from supermarkets & he URGES us to research on how the raw meats we bought for our animals are slaughtered, processed, handled etc. HELLO........ we only get organic-grade meats & their level of handlin & processin' are wayyy higher than factory-farms. Morever, even Raw-Foodists on organic raw meats thrive on them, what more about TRUE carnivores like dogs & cats?! He is SO BENT on promotin' his pdt & thinks he's a know-it-all & even calls himself a ''naturopath''. Oh please... if anyone is more deservin' of this title, it should be me. But even I daren't classify myself as a naturopath even tho' I'm a Raw (Vegan) Foodist myself. See... that is why local forums ARE A JOKE & ends up as the jokers leadin' the blind when they try to ''teach'' others abt raw-feedin'. These ppl aren't even feedin' a TRUE RAW DIET! They're either feedin' kibbles or commercial raw-diets & they DARE to ''teach'' others. Sigh.

A Raw-Diet for dogs & cats is never meant to be cheap & easy. We spend S$500+ on our dogs & cat organic Raw diet per month, not to mention the effort involved such as purchasin' them & packin' them. We've also heard of MANY dogs on this freeze-dried commercial raw diet refusin' to eat them after awhile. Our dogs & cat have been on an organic RAW diet for four years & NOT ONE DAY have they ever rejected their foods. Why? Because they KNOW it is pure goodness packed with nutrients for them. How your animals react to their food = the quality of the foods. Not to mention they've perfect skin (the skin is the largest organ in the body & much can be told abt humans/animals' health just from the skin alone) from the day they were born til now. You may think I'm lyin'... but the truth is they've NEVER had a single ''bump'' or ''rash'' on them at all... symptoms that are so common amongst so many dogs fed on kibbles/commercial raw diets. And I believe that proves for somethin' abt the diet I'm puttin' so much effort in providin' for them.

Ok enuf of my rants... am so sick of these forums shootin' me when I start to post the correct stuff in there. You see, these ppl are so full of pride & shit that they think they know so much when what they know are really juz the tip of an iceberg. Hence, I've decided to stop postin' anythin in forums... if ppl wish to learn, they'd know better & email me rather than ask these bunch of fools.

These are some sites to view if you're one whom believes this fella's crap that meats from NZ = ''as good as organic'':

Alright back to our greens... Mom prefers to purchase Locally Grown Organic veg to reduce their carbon footprint & most importantly, the freshness & nutrients of the veg are higher than those imported ones due to freight time etc.

Precious nutrients are lost thru' (overseas) packin', freight time, displayed at shops, to our home, from washin' to cuttin' & lastly to blendin' & storage for consumption. Hence, Mom only lightly rinsess the veg & reduce any choppin' or cuttin' of them.

Mom: For eg I asked the salesperson on a Monday when did this imported organic veg arrive. She mentioned Friday. Which meant freight-time probably took 2 days? Packagin' time overseas probably 1 day before. Fri til Mon was already 3 days in the shop, I'd estimate the veg to be a week old from overseas to the shop in SG... worse still if I were to wash, cut & blend them & store them for another week in my place. The veg would be 2 weeks+ old! One can only imagine the nutrients left in there (even tho' the veg still looks pretty). And imagine payin' so much for imported veg but with depleted nutrients.
And MOST MOST importantly, do not waste your money & COOK these organic veg! Organic foods are much higher in nutrition compared to non-organic ones & cooking under heat & fire destroys enzymes & depletes nutrients. The best & most bio-available method to consume them (for dogs or humans alike) is to blend them in their RAW state into smoothies.

Organic Lettuce, Organic Broccoli, Organic Xiao Bai Cai

That's it for now! And we LOVE our greens as much as Mom & Dad love theirs! Like Mom said, we DO know what is good & bad for us. So for once, stop tryin' to act the ''alpha'' & starve dogs to make us eat foods that were never meant for us in nature.

We'd like to share somethin' with everyone... it may be a long read for some of you, but if you can, please spare a few mins readin' it for the sake of both yourself and your animals.

From the book ''12 Steps to Raw Foods'' How to End Your Dependency on Cooked Food by Victoria Boutenko

pg 39-40

''
From biology, we know that inside plant cells, tiny organelles called ''mitochondria'' break down carbohydreate and sugar molecules to provide energy. These organelles are alive and constantly at work, but only while the plant is alive, not after it is cooked. Therefore, consuming food that has life in it holds an immense benefit for humans. I have heard from many people that when they stopped eating cooked food, the very first change they noticed was a dramatic increase in their energy levels. (IT IS TRUE! We've stopped eatin' cooked foods & have become Raw-Vegan Foodists too just like our animals, but omiting raw meats/bones or any animal pdts.).

Wild animals intuitively prefer fresher, more alive foods. If given a choice, goats, rabbits, and horses will always choose green grass over hay. We can find numerous examples in nature of various creatures that sustain themselves by eating live food only. For example, a caterpillar from Maui feeds solely on live snails. Most spiders consume exclusively live flies and bugs and would never eat dead insects. If you have ever possessed a lizard as your pet, you know that lizards would rather die from hunger than eat a dead bug, even a freshly caught one. A cheetah eats only fresh meat, consuming just enough to satisfy its hunger.

Of course, there are some animals like vultures, flies, or other scavengers that eat rotten food, including dead meat. However, even those animals do not cook their food. They still get life from their meal but in a different form - as microorganisms. Their bodies have adjusted to digesting decaying food. These creatures usually have a particular or extraordinary high concentration of stomach acid capable of killing pathogenic bacteria.

Wild creatures that eat their natural foods rarely develop degenerative diseases. In contrast, it has become almost expected for domesticated animals to develop cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and other illnesses typical of humans who eat the standard American diet. A growing number of vets contend that processed pet food is the main cause of illness and premature death in the modern dog and cat. In December 1995, the British Journal of Small Animal Practice published a paper stating that processed pet food suppresses the immune system and damges the liver, kidneys, heart, and other organs. This research, initially conducted by Dr. Tom Lonsdale, was replicated by the Australian Veterinary Association, and was proven to be valid.

Dr. Gyorgy Kollath of the Karolinksa Hospital in Stockholm also headed a study of animals. When young animals were fed cooked and processed foods, they initially appeared to be healthy. However, as the animals reached adulthood, they began to age more quickly than normal and also developed chronic degenerative disease symptoms. Members of a control group of animals raised on raw foods aged less quickly and were free of degenerative disease. In nature, we see that wild animals eating entirely enzyme-rich raw foods are free of the degenerative diseases that afflict humans.
I believe the time has come to finally recognize the most important ingredient in our food - life, this invisible yet precious quality - and its significance in the realm of health.''

[We're Raw-Vegan Foodists while our three dogs & cat are on a 100% Raw (Organic) Diet (Raw-Foodists). We've come to learn A WHOLE LOT about living RAW food & health through our animals. We hope to share & for others to follow the path of real living WHOLE raw foods for their precious animals & for themselves too if possible. Other human raw foodists consume RAW meats & bones from organically-raised & healthy animals. Most (if not all) of raw books we've read never fail to include a section solely for animals. Hence, there IS a direct connection for both animals & humans to be RAW Foodists. So there is absolutely no excuse to not feed TRUE carnivores [like our dogs & cats] a RAW & NATURAL diet for them to lead healthy & happy lives of 20 and beyond (note that the average lifespan of a canis lupus is 24 years).]

AWAKENED

My animals not only inspire me, but they've also led me to & taught me the importance of FRESH FOOD, the CORRECT type of foods, the importance of exercise & tryin' our best to lead a life ''away'' from diseases. Not that we're aiming for longevity, but to be responsible for our own health. & for that, I love my animals & they'll always be my priority... without them, I'd never be what I am today - AWAKENED.

This post is about a Documentary called PROCESSED PEOPLE, which is applicable to not only humans, but ANIMALS as well... animals like our domesticated dogs & cats especially... We're all under One Catagory - EARTHLINGS (btw Earthlings is also a good documentary).

The typical people these days tend to forget the fact that our dogs/cats are under the ANIMALS catagory. Animals have no ability to cook their foods, nature has always intended for animals to consume RAW foods (raw meats, raw veg, raw everything).

Tigers certainly do not have porridge on days when their stomachs are feeling a lil' under the weather, neither do bears, wolves, birds, seals etc. So why the need to even COOK for our animals, not to mention feedin' them with Processed Foods like kibbles/canned foods available from petshops which can be stored for years without any form of refrigeration at all.

Would like to urge anyone readin' this now to take a moment & think logically for once, for your animals' health in the long-run. If you wouldn't eat processed food (eg instant noodles, fast food, pizzas etc) every meals, every single day, for 365 days a year, for 10 years straight down the road... THEN WHY DO THAT TO YOUR ANIMAL THAT YOU PROCLAIM TO LOVE SO MUCH (unless we've some very different definition of the word LOVE here).

Not only do our animals (please note that I always refrain from using the word "pets") & us require a raw natural (organic) diet, but let us not forget about EXERCISE. Every Earthlings here require daily exercise (& I don't mean a 15 minutes walk with your dog around your void deck), a good solid 1 to 2 hours of say maybe running, jogging, swimming, hiking, cycling, or even brisk-walking.

(Most) animals are BUILT to exercise, some requiring even MORE exercise both mentally & physically as compared to humans. Dogs & cats are carnivores, they're built physically & mentally to hunt for prey. We've to keep in mind that this fact will never ''evolve'' to them being a couch potato. Be fair to them & give them these 2 most important factors in their lives to enhance their well-being & most importantly - HEALTH.

We hope some of these excerpts from the documentary PROCESSED PEOPLE will at least help to ''wake'' some people up from what the media has portrayed to what is termed ''normal''...

We're very glad that we've escaped from this so called ''reality'' which are in fact nothing but lies in the name of Profit. And even though we're vegans, we will never make our animals one because they're simply not made herbivores like us (their carnivorous teeth, 3 feet short intestinal tract as compared to ours at 30 feet long & ability to tear raw meats, gnaw on raw bones & consume the entire prey w/o any wastage).

Would also like to emphasize that humans DO NOT need cow's milk (for calcium) as much as we do not need giraffe's milk, hippo's milk, tiger's milk, bear's milk, hyena's milk etc. Likewise for animals as well. After we're weaned off our mother's breast milk (& baby animals weaned off their mother's breast milk), there is NO MORE need for any form of milk from animals. A cow's milk is produced solely for her calves, likewise a mother's milk produced ONLY for her baby. You don't STEAL a mother's milk to feed another species & deprive her baby of it (I'm referrin' to both humans & animals in that sentence).

Please, wake up from reality, into REALITY.

The following videos (more of which are available online or even better, purchase the DVD) are for people whom care enough for their own health, whom love themselves enough to make the change not only for themselves, but for the suffering animals, for the environment, for the planet EARTH which we call our home, for 3/4 of the world that's dying of starvation, & lastly, for people whom love & care enough for their animals.

(I know 9 outta 10 ppl readin' this will not bother to watch the vids or care enough to make a difference... but still I trust there're some whom will choose to be awakened.)

We are vegans & seriously, have never felt better... (it's a difference case for animals, but bear in mind that our animals also consumed loads of organic veg/fruits & tonics besides their organic meats)

we exercise our animals & ourselves by running 5km to 7km (per day) everyday...

It goes for our animals as well... YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. YOU LOOK LIKE WHAT YOU EAT.

IT IS WRONG TO EAT ANIMALS. "The message is so well-financed that its rare that somebody has the correct informations, they don't stand a chance to be healthy..."

likewise for dogs, HEAL THEM with the correct form of diet. Please DO NOT wait till they're sick enough for you, as their guardian to take the correct action.

A simple humble diet is always the best compared to rich unhealthy gourmet meals

Don't make your body a graveyard for animals. Humans are designed to be herbivores. Please realize the impact of meats on our bodies, environment, global warming, starvation & factory-animals' sufferings

Our daily foods are reallly simple consisting of REAL foods like veg, grains, & fruits. I for one HATE the act of FEASTIN' esp during occassions. The fact is it is not much of an issue of longevity that I'm lookin' into... I'm lookin' into a life free (hopefully) of diseases & heaps of unnecessary medical bills & of cuz sadness.

One interesting question to ask yourself, how many times have you seen the media & adverts on factory-farmed animals like chickens, ducks, cows as cute lil' mascots on the streets luring you with fliers to EAT them, literally. Have you ever seen a walking-brocolli, a walking-lettuce, a walking-mushroom? Vegetables & grains mascots handin' our fliers on the streets?

This is also the kind of life I aim for my animals. Organ failures, skin problems, cancer (all forms) are NOT normal for animals! It is common & normal because we've moulded that fact ourselves simply by making them into Processed Animals! Please PLEASE do not wait for them to fall sick enough...

I've decided to share this because it's important that we see the connection between humans & animals. There isn't such a thing as dog-food, or cat-food... there's suppose to be only ONE type of food - NATURAL food produced from Mother Nature herself! What have dogs & cats been surviving on before the invention of kibbles (for nothing but profit!)?

It is when one is willing to return to the basics, start asking questions & THINK logically that one truly is awakened from a lifelong dream (which I call lies) from the media ever since we were babies... & for our animals... ever since the day they were whelped...

Lastly, I'd like to end off this post with this video of Gary Yourofsky. If you've an hour to spare, I guarantee you that you will never perceive your lifestyle the same way again with Yourofsky's most powerful speech.......

An Imperfect Vegan

We know some people are wonderin' why our humans are vegans, but yet feed us an (organic home-made) diet of meats, veg, fruits & supplements. My Mom will clarify & hopefully, change some of you humans' perspective of eating animals.

1st of all, for those whom are curious & would love to do your part for animals & our environment, do spare some time to read "EATING ANIMALS" by Jonathan Safran Foer. Available at most local libraries as well. We're also giving away copies of it.

Pardon me for my naivety, but I do believe that vegans & vegetarians alike are doing their tiny part in helpin' our dyin' planet. For every vegan in this world, there's probably another million omnivorous humans whom are un-aware of the consequences of eating animals, specifically BATTERY/FARMED animals. Other than health issues associated with saturated fats & protein from meats & their by-products, consuming meats have led to famine & poverty in less-developed countries. Rice that's needed to feed livestock (which ends up on your plates) are purchased from them & people are actually dying from famine from poverty. Greenhouse gases like methane produced from millions of cows is also the No. 1 cause of global warmin'.

I believe that with awareness & knowledge, more people will have the heart & compassion to either switch to a vegan or vegetarian diet, or simply reduce the amount of meat consumption. It is similar to the story of the boy saving a starfish, "You cannot save ALL the stranded starfish, but you will make a difference to the life of the one you've saved."

Humans can thrive very well w/o meats. With our sedantary modern lifestyle, most of us can never utilize our protein/fats (from meats) with our daily activities, unlike thousands of years ago where our early humans had to hunt for their own food, whereby much energy is needed everyday. Most importantly, they WORKED for their kill, & provided an instant death to their food.

What about now in our modern society with almost 7 billion people? People no longer hunt, people no longer run on foot from places to places, people depend on modern transportation. Why on earth would you need that much protein & fats?

And where does our food for 7 billion people come from? Factory farms & battery cages.

"Factory farming is the modern practice of raising animals for food in extreme confinement, in order to maximize profits. In addition to intense confinement, abuses usually associated with factory farming include massive doses of hormones and antibiotics, battery cages, debeaking, tail docking, gestation crates, and veal crates. The animals spend their entire lives in these miserable conditions until they are slaughtered. Their suffering is unimaginable."

Workers constantly tortuse, abuse & SEXUALLY abuse the factory-farmed animals. Why? Perversion. I don't think I've to mention much... if you even bother to know the inconvenient truth, there's tonnes of videos online & books on these.

Lets move on to why as a vegan, yet I still purchase organic meats for my animals.

I think its pretty obvious which set of teeth belongs to whom

While cats are carnivores by nature, dogs are omnivores. They CAN do well on a vegan or vegetarian diet, no doubt about that as one of the world's oldest dog was on a vegetarian diet whom died at around 28 years old or so.

But I perosnally wouldn't choose to deprive my bitches of their meats. They also have organic blended vegetables (more than 10 different vegetables & herbs at one go) as well as their organic home-made supplement aside from their organic meats. I prefer to stick to organic meats (Singapore only has organic chicken & kangaroo meat) as they're healthier w/o any antibiotics, growth-hormones etc. Although I know that organic free range animals' meats might suffer almost the same fate as their conventional counterparts. But I feel that is the least I could do. I'm also not confident of concocting a balanced vegan diet for my bitches in Singapore where there's limited kinds of greens available here.

Most vegans & vegetarians do not want to deal with blood or come in contact with any form of meats & prefer kibbles/canned food (commercial dog food) over raw meats. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that these foods also contain animal products or by-products, of which (most likely) come from factory-farms. Thus, it's a really simple scenario & choice here -
both options involve animals, its up to you which of the two you prefer. I personally prefer to feed them raw organic foods w/o any artificial ingredients. And most importantly, I know EXACTLY what goes into their stomaches everyday. Though they're not fresh-kills, but like I said, its simply a matter of makin' the better of two choices.

For our treats that we sell, it is not possible that organic meats be used because an organic whole chicken costs S$28/kg (our price we get from our supplier, thus, per whole organic chicken is approx. S$35+. It is sold at S$70 per chicken in supermarkets). Same thing as above, rather than choosin' artificial & preservatives laded commercial treats, we'd rather dogs have the healthier version free of the above. Let's face it, there's no commerical vegan treats available for them here, all of them are derived one way or another from animals. Again, it's making a better choice out of two.

[Believe me when I say I feel very guilty (towards the dead animal) whenever I feed my bitches their organic meats. All I can say is that they are dogs, animals, & animals possess the rights to eat animals - Just look at their teeth as compared to ours. Maybe one day... I can find the ability to switch them to a vegan diet, but til then, my heart & mind are leadin me to the current direction now. Their organic meats/bones intake is only 110g per dog a day, their organic veg/fruits intake is no less (sometimes more) than the former. Yes, I've minimized their meats/bones intake even though they weigh only 5kg & jog 5km (per day), 5 days a week with me. I'm already doing my best for them, for the organic chicken (40g meat + 20g bones), organic beef (40g) & salmon belly (10g) that they eat daily]

It doesn't take a genius to figure it is of more importance that humans take the initiative to switch to a vegan/vegetarian diet OR reduce their consumption of meats considerin' the ratio of domesticated animals : humans in the world. If every human plays their part, if everyone became vegan or vegetarian, or even reduce their daily meat intake, imagine the total positive impact on our planet.

I clearly recall a video on a vegan mother with her newborn. Of which she very briefly mentioned why it's wrong to eat animals & their by-products (milk, eggs). She said that her breastmilk is meant only for her own baby & no one else, likewise a cow's milk meant for her precious calf only. Why are we stealin' her milk & robbin' her calf away from her? It's just morally wrong. I think this simple statement sends out a very strong message... more so especially for breastfeeding mothers to relate to.

Others would say animals are meant to be eaten even if humans do not eat them. It is true. But think about it, preys in the wild are NEVER wasted from their fur to their bones. How much of an animal do humans discard of just for their MEATS? We do not have the ability to gnaw through bones like carnivores, nor swallow a prey whole with their fur. Most importantly, animals work for their kill, they die a humane death (there is a fine line between the act of KILLING & the act of TORMENT & ABUSE). What rights have we humans to CREATE flightless birds (oh did you know turkeys could fly?) in battery cages, birds made to grow twice their size in half the time that their feeble legs can no longer take their weight, birds that never get to spread their wings nor see daylight in their entire (but short) lifetime, male (chicks) layers are gassed simply for being born as males & not being able to lay eggs... we've no rights to... just because we're humans.

I find it very interestin' when people come proclaimin' proudly to me that they're animal-lovers when they eat cows, chickens, turkeys, ducks, pigs, lambs, fishes, endangered animals like sharks (fins) etc. Would like to share this statement by Andrew Kirschner (a vegan & volunteer animal rights activist):

'‎'I tell people who say they love animals and eat them (and have been educated about the process): You don't love animals. You love your dog. You hate cows. You hate pigs. You hate chicken. You hate fish. If you loved them (or even cared just a little about them), you would never pay factory farmers to inhumanely confine, torture, and kill them so you could eat them when you don't need to eat them to survive.'' - Andrew Ⓥ Kirschner

Did you know pigs are as smart as dogs & possess the ability to learn anything a dog can? Did you know chickens are social creatures just like dogs? Pardon me, I'd like to share more inspirin' articles by Andrew... if you're patient enough... do read on below for more.

Would God really want factory farms & battery chickens to exist? & humans exploiting them?

If you wouldn't eat your dog or cat, why eat that cow, chicken, duck, fish etc? Speciesism - Speciesism is the assigning of different values or rights to beings on the basis of their species membership

MAN are apes. This comic speaks a thousand words

If Chickens Could Speak by Andrew Kirschner

I am a chicken.
I have the same five senses as you: I can see, smell, touch, hear, and taste.
I experience pain, misery, loneliness, and happiness.
I like to socialize and enjoy time with my family and friends.
I am intelligent and follow a pecking order.
I can recognize other chickens by sight and smell.
I nest and nurture my young.
I chirp dozens of vocalizations and speak my own language.
I have a long term memory.
I like to sit in trees.
I run towards food because I enjoy eating.
I am scared of loud noises.
I have a purpose in this world just like you and yet
I am the most disrespected and mistreated animal on the face of the earth.
I am a chicken.

The majority of humans show no regard for my life.
They ascribe no reason for my existence beyond being tortured and killed for food.
They show me no mercy but ask for it for themselves and those they love, including their own animals they keep as pets.
I wonder how they can say that they can't watch someone slaughter me
but can still bring themselves to pay someone to do it and eat me.
I wonder if they will ever see the irony of calling themselves animal lovers while they eat animals.
I bet if they met me and got to know me
and held me on their lap
they wouldn't eat me.

I am a chicken.
I am crowded in a warehouse where I am unable to move freely my entire life.
I do not ever see the light of day or breathe fresh air unless I am being transported in a truck where I will often die from cold weather exposure or heat stroke.
I sleep in my own feces or the feces from cages above that fall on my head.

Factory farmers mislead you into believing I am treated humanely by telling you that I am free-range.
Don’t believe them.
They abuse me in ways that would shock you.
"Free-range" or "cage-free" means that instead of putting me in a cage,
I am packed on a sordid warehouse floor where I live with thousands of other chickens in less than a square foot of space for each of us.
You're told I'm cage-free so you will feel less guilty and so the factory farmers can charge you more money and increase their profits.
The cruelty is the same.

My beak is cut off with a hot blade.
It is excruciating pain.
I do not receive anesthesia.
They cut my beak off so when I go crazy,
I don’t fight with other chickens and kill them.
It is not my nature to go crazy and kill other chickens any more than it is your nature to go crazy and kill other humans.
Imagine the living conditions that would cause me to kill another chicken.

I am genetically altered to grow twice as fast as I’m supposed to grow.
I am so heavy that I can’t stand anymore.
The weight breaks my legs.
I am fed growth hormone that you ingest when you eat me.
That means you’re taking steroids that can kill you.
Our heart and lungs can’t support the forced growth causing billions of us to die before slaughter. I am filled with antibiotics to prevent my death before I’m killed.
You eat those antibiotics and your body develops an immunity to them which places you at risk to resist them when you’re sick and need them.
You think you know what I taste like but you do not.
I am stuffed with preservatives and flavorings that create what you believe tastes like chicken.
It isn't healthy for you to eat me.
You've been fooled by the meat industry into believing otherwise.

Unsanitary living conditions cause us to die of thirst, overheating, infections, and diseases.
It is common for 20,000 of us to be crammed in one broiler house in a factory.
The electrical current used to kill us is often set low so it doesn’t ruin the meat on our bones.
In many cases, it doesn’t kill us and we are thrown into a scolding hot tank of water to remove our feathers while we are still conscious.
You can hear us scream from a mile away.
A mechanical blade is also used to slash our throats.
Many times it isn’t properly aligned and only partially slashes our throats, leaving us to die miserable deaths.
These killing errors happen to millions of us.
If you think my life is bad, read about what they do to battery hens to lay eggs.
Their lives are even worse.

I know you don't see any of this happen
but it does to billions of chickens like me
and it's scary
and painful
and horrible
and I can't understand why
you support it
and think nothing of it.

I am a chicken.
The truth is
I can't speak
which is why this happens to chickens like me.
But if I could speak, I would beg you not to eat me anymore.
I want to be free like other birds.
I want you to respect my life on this earth as you value your own.
Your existence is only more important than mine in your mind.
Simply because you believe it
doesn't make it so.

Knowing what you know now,
that you don't need to eat me to survive,
and that my life and death are cruel beyond your imagination,
and that you say you love animals,
are you still going to pay someone
to torture and kill me?
Or will you make a humane decision
and refrain and ask others to do the same?

I was a chicken
and I wish my life meant more to you.

Dear Friends,

More than 100 billion animals are slaughtered worldwide every year. This is how many animals are killed every minute by the meat, dairy, and egg industry:

313,570 marine animals
162,440 chickens
7,881 ducks
4,446 pigs
3,665 rabbits
2,408 turkeys
1,857 geese
1,794 sheep
1,202 goats
1,017 cows and calves
226 rodents (excluding rabbits)
219 pigeons and other birds
80 buffaloes
31 horses, donkeys, mules

If you eat meat, you are eating dead animals that have lived miserable lives and died horrible deaths. No matter how much you try to convince yourself otherwise, you are complicit in the process. In the depth of your conscience, not even in a culture where it has become second nature to eat animals, can you deny the existence of this reality.

Please consider making a lifestyle change. A vegan diet is healthier, better for the environment, and does not support animal torture. This isn’t about assessing blame; it’s about saving animals’ lives and the planet and helping you to live a healthier life. Please search your hearts and minds and give it some thought. It’s much easier than you think. For more information, please consider reading The Food Revolution by John Robbins or Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer. Thank you for keeping an open mind. I believe in your capacity to change.

Which of these Animals Do You Eat? by Andrew Kirschner

"If you won't eat your dog, why would you eat a pig? If you won't eat your cat, why would you eat a cow?

These animals are all intelligent and affectionate and they experience fear and pain. None of them want to die. Just because you don't see them slaughtered doesn't mean they weren't killed to satisfy your appetite. If you follow your logic, it would be all right to pay someone to rob a bank (as long as you don't see him do it).

Why do you get upset when there's something wrong with your dog but think nothing of buying a chicken that has been tortured so you can eat it?

What's the difference between these animals? There is none. They weren't put on this earth to be eaten anymore than you were. Only a morally bankrupt culture and intellectual complacency has persuaded you otherwise.

You don't have to accept things the way they are. You're better than that. You can change.

Don't you owe it to the animals to research what happens to them on factory farms so you can make an informed decision? If you already know, and you continue to eat them, are you certain that your actions are in alignment with your heart?"

No one in this world can lead an animal-free lifestyle. There is no perfect vegan. The most important thing is that we try our best, startin' from the most basic issue - our diet. We can all play our TINY role in the betterment of the lives of animals, & our planet.

I hope this lengthy post has at least opened up some of your hearts & minds regardin' eating animals. Thanksgiving is comin' soon... & Thanksgiving has always taken a toll on battery turkeys every year. I hope people would celebrate Christ's Day with compassion. Celebrate the turkeys instead of eating these tortured & abused creatures. There's hundreds of ways to celebrate such a joyous occassion without unnecessary bloodshed. Consider celebratin' Thanksgiving with a healthy & compassionate vegan diet.

Thank you for sparin' a lil' time to go through this.

HELLO to 100% Biodegradable CornBags!

Natural Pawpals is very proud to announce that our packagin' for our treats is goin' green! Green, just like the color of our logo!

For everyone whom know us personally, you'd know we're tree-huggers & try our very best to do our part for both animals & our environment every single day.

We're against the use of (non-biodegradable) plastic bags (that cause the death of thousands of marine creatures everyday) as well as harmful styrofoam lunch-boxes that are bleached & hence, contain cancer-causin' agents.

The solution? Bring your own eco-friendly fabric bags when grocery shoppin... & your own (washable) plastic tupperware in replacment of harmful styrofoam boxes!

It is ridiculous to use a (non-biodegradable) plastic bag for only 5 minutes & then it ends up being dumped into landfills or oceans existin' FOREVER on Earth causin' the death of thousands of oceanic creatures when they get trapped in it or consume too many plastic bags.

We've switched to usin' Cornbags! These 100% biodegradable & environmentally-friendly plastic bags are made from Corn. They're extremely safe to contain food as well.
Say NO to (non-biodegradable) plastic bags & HELLO to CornBags!

CornBag. Eco-Friendly Bags Made from Corn. Biodegradable. Compostable

Why Vegans Don't Eat Honey

Mom's a vegan. As much as she likes organic eggs, cheese & organic milk, & especially Manuka Honey, she has decided to give them up again, just like 5 years ago. This includes the sacrifice of many other stuff as well like chocolates, pizza, vegetarian burgers (with eggs/cheese in them), etc.

Veganism is a way of living that seeks to exclude as far as possible & practicable, all forms of exploitation of, & cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.

Altho' most may think honey doesn't involve in the killing of animals, but in actual fact, humans have made bees slaves... & STEAL their honey. Bees make honey to survive through the winter. It is stored specifically for the winter & the bees eat it during the winter (as they do not hibernate). Therefore, by stealing their honey, you're stealing their means to survive. Thus, vegans do not eat animal by-products.

Queen bees are also killed annually & replaced with new ones to the colony. Tell me that isn't cruelty - simply just so you could have some honey.

This is a good article from The Vegan Society.

Bees help polinate our flowers & plants, in return, honey is their wages. We shouldn't STEAL their wages because humans generally do not need honey to survive.

Anyways, honey is a very controversial food between vegans.

Other arguments are things such as driving cars with leather seats insteriors, riding a bike with leather seats, wearing leather/wool clothes or shoes etc.

Mom can truly say she doesn't weather any leather/wool clothes & shoes... but living life in this modern world & avoiding EVERYTHING else that's made from animals is pretty inevitable. What one can do is simply try their VERY best in reducing all these exploitation of animals in our everyday lives.

When you do not eat red meat ONLY, but eat fishes, you're a pescatarian (not a vegetarian).
When you do not eat red meat & fishes, you're a vegetarian.
When you do not eat red meat, fishes & eggs, but drink milk, you're a lacto-vegetarian.
When you do not eat red meat, fishes & milk, but eat eggs, you're a ovo-vegetarian.
When you do not eat red meat, fishes, eggs, cheese, milk, honey, you're a vegan.

REDUCE the use of plastic bags!

Viral Video vs. Plastic Bags (Please share this video with all you know & educate them)

California is on the verge of passing a statewide ban against plastic bags (individual cities have already done so). Could a little bit of viral video marketing tip the scales in the ban's favor?

Oscar winner Jeremy Irons has narrated a mockumentary, "The Majesty Plastic Bag" for heal the bay, a 25 year old non-profit based in Santa Monica. It's part of an effort to highlight the importance of passing AB 1998, which would ban single-use of plastic bags from grocery stores and other retailers. If passed, the bill would make California the first state to ban plastic bags.

Iron's ironic voiceover may not sway opponents of the bill, but at the very least it serves to spread awareness of AB's 1998 existence -- and its potential impact. Check it out below.

As per our previous post regarding plastic bags, we hope more Singaporeans would come to know of the harm non-biodegradable plastic bags are bringing to our marine lives out there. Ultimately, humans will be the ones most affected.

If you've missed out our points in ou previous post, we talked about how you can play your part in reducing the use of plastic bags in your everyday life.

Bring your own tupperware when ordering take-aways. This would help reduce the use of styrofoam boxes which are equally as harmful as they DO NOT biodegrade.

Bring your own eco-friendly cloth bags when grocery-shopping.

If you MUST use plastic bags, opt for 100% oxo-biodegradable plastic bags instead. These bags will biodegradable over months & become part of our Earth's soil.

We're switching to 100% oxo-biodegradable plastic bags for both our food-stall & Natural Pawpals store as well.

We also try our best to educate both the young & old while at work everyday... even if that means ignorant people mistaking us for being stingy on plastic bags. We don't really care how these group of people view us... for our biggest clients should be the suffering sea creatures out there.

This is just one of our EarthEcho. Let this be yours from today on too.

My Human-Mom & her EarthEcho

This shall be a post dedicated to my human-Mom... all about my human-Mom... her strong beliefs... her EarthEcho...

Mom has decided to be a vegan as of today. Veganism is a philosophy & lifestyle whose adherents seek to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. Vegans do not consume meats, seafood, honey, dairy products like eggs/cheese.

Another great form of diet is fruitarianism - what being a fruitarian is all about. A fruitarian only eats what the Earth provides - fruits & nuts, & doesn't destroy or kill anything.

Freeganism is another different form of diet which involves foraging of foods in trash... somewhat like a dumpster. Freegans are self-sufficient & avoid paying for food, but rather consume what left-overs there're in the trashbins.

But Mom is quite satisfied with being a vegan (no meats/seafood/honey/dairy pdts like milk & cheese).

Below is a quote by 1 of Mom's heroes (other than Richard O'Barry) whom is against whaling, clubbing of seals, shark finning & dolphin captivity.

''I believe that veganism is the morally right thing to do but most importantly I believe that veganism is something we must adopt to cleanse the earth of the damage the meat, fishing and dairy industries have cause to global eco-systems.''

Paul Watson (Captain of the Steve Irwin, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society)

Mom has been an ovo-lacto vegetarian at age 17, vegan at age 19, pesco-vegetarian at age 23, & has decided to move on back to a lifestyle of veganism now at 25... so as to play her part to help the Earth (read on below).

Over-fishing is another one of the world's most disturbing problem that many have not come to realize about. Fishes in the wild are being depleted at an alarming & extraordinary rate that many fishermen have resorted to killing dolphins & whales for meat & to prevent them from consuming fishes. Is it us HUMANS or the whales that are "over-fishing''? Think about it. Humans CAN survive w/o fishes, but can the whales? How selfish can the human species be just so as to consume fishes everyday.

"We are in massive denial & continue to bicker over the last shrinking numbers of survivors, employing satellites & sensors to catch the last fish left. We have to understand how close to extinction some of these populations really are. And we must act now before they reach the point of no return. I want there to be hammerhead sharks & bluefin tuna around when my five-year-old son grows up. If present fishing levels persist, these great fish WILL go the way of the dinosaurs."

Extracted from : THE END OF THE LINE (Book & DVD)

Scientists have discovered that if the entire marine-ecological system is "tampered & interfered" with, what will eventaully be left for us are jellyfish & plankton. Do you fancy a jellyfish-burger in future?

Needless to say, Mom greatly DISAPPROVES of anyone eating sharks' fins. They have little nutritional values & contain high toxic mercury (bigger impact on pregnant animals & babies) as sharks like whales, are the top predators in the foodchain. Please refer to this article on Singapore being high on the list of consumers for sharks' fins. Shark finning is one of the most inhumane criminal acts on Earth, slicing off their fins whilst leaving them to SINK & DROWN to death... a slow & agonizing death...

Please Love Sharks, not eat them. Please also save childish & irresponsible remarks to yourself... for eg "but sharks eat humans! we should eat them!" Anthropocentrism is NOT the way to go. Biocentrism is! (Biocentrism - The idea that all species on the planet have an equal right to exist & that all species must have the right to exist, even habitats. The interest of a species must take precedence over the interest of an individual or a group of individuals within any one species. The rights of any species must take precedence over the desires & concerns of any one group of human beings. Culture is not a justification for exploitation of a habitat or a species.)

SAY NO TO SHARKS' FINS & educate the people around you.

"The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men."

Alice Walker

Another great DVD to watch will be FOOD INC which depicts what most (if not all) humans are exactly eating everyday. We urge you to consume more organic/free-range produces to reduce the sufferings of caged-up chickens that NEVER get to see sunlight or even spread their wings in their entire lifetime... & many other farmed animals like cattle etc.

Now, altho' Mom's a vegan, she still buys & prepares (organic) meats for us. In short, she comes in contact with meats everyday both at home & at work. We aren't vegans like her because she believes that its morally right for animals to consume animals, just like how you'll never see a vegetarian lion anywhere.

Mom's also a weight-watcher as she tends to lose & gain very easily. From as low as 38kg to as high as 51kg... so as of now, she has lost nearly 11kg (in 2 months) & intends to maintain her weight at 40kg via a good diet & lotsa exercise (jogging with us or for her half-marathons of 21km).

Anyone whom knows her well, knows she is very dedicated to feeding us an organic raw natural diet coupled with lotsa daily exercise. Other things that she likes to do are watching Animal Planet, Nat Geo Wild, or any shows depicting wildlife, brave people risking their lives to save endangered species, etc.

Mom is not a fan of captivity of wild animals. So in that, she obviously doesn't like (nor visit) zoos/dolphinariums especially with smart creatures like dolphins/seals taught to perform stupid tricks to entertain humans. Most of these lovely intelligent creatures are wild-caught (locally & worldwide, watch THE COVE to witness the entire inhumane process)... & it's simply morally wrong to separate them from their families (to live in tiny enclosures) as they're social creatures that swim hundreds of miles per day in the open-sea to tease, socialize & play.

Mom & Dad also supports certain (non-profit) organizations that vow to save, & even die for the creatures they so love & vow to protect from extinction from being hunted down. Altho' Mom cannot do much from over here, she donates as & when she is able to. She hopes more people will come to realize about our dying animal species & planet... & do something about it before its too late, before your future generations can only see such wonderful, intelligent, self-conscious creatures from BOOKS & PICTURES instead of in their Natural Wild Habitat.

Besides animals, Mom is also trying to be environmentally friendly to our planet Earth. Do you know about the harm (non-biodegradable) plastic bags are bringing to our marine friends? They get wrapped up & die via choking from plastic bags... friends like the turtles, fishes etc. These plastic bags (& styrofoam boxes etc) will exist FOREVER because they can't bio-degrade, & they're dumped into the ocean because of over-population & hence, marine life are the ones whom SUFFER, no thanks to humans.

Definitions:

(Oxo) Biodegradable: Waste that will eventually break down & become part of the earth & soil like (oxo-biodegradable) plastic bags.

Non-Biodegradable: Waste that will NOT break down. Egs are plastic, metal & glass. Dangerous chemicals & toxins are also non-biodegradable, as are plastic grocery bags, styrofoam (polystyrene) , & other similar materials.

Some basic & simple ways that Mom helps to reduce the use of plastic bags are by bring her own eco-friendly bag when grocery-shopping, or simply saying NO to plastic bags especially when the distance from the shop to home is so near.

Should you have a recycling bin around your residence, please fill them up! With recyclable materials of course... we'll let you have an insight of our own daily collection before filling the recycling bin up!

Bringing your own tupperware when buying take-aways is also a way to reduce the use of harmful styforoam take-away boxes.

Mom is also switching to 100% oxo-biodegradable plastic bags for our family's Nasi Lemak stall, as well as for the Natural Pawpals' products. We hope more people will come to realize about these eco-problems we're facing today... & help to play their part in it. The ones to suffer first will be the animals, but ultimately, it will be us humans most greatly affected.

"All social changes begin from the passion of an individual." Please do not have the mentality that A PERSON doesn't make a difference. If one person reduces the use of 5 plastic bags a day, what about ten people? What about an entire NATION? Learn to look at the bigger picture. We really hope to do more, but til then... we will keep trying to be eco-friendly in our everyday-lives.

Mom & Dad likes to do stray-feeding as well. We follow them too & currently have 3 groups of stray dogs that we feed almost daily with lotsa table-scrapes collected from their food-stall. Most of the time, "beggers can't be choosers", & this is the best they can do currently. That way, at least the stray dogs won't go starving.

Photography (mostly of us & nature) is another of Mom's fav. thing to do. She hopes to invest in a better DSLR (for us) soon.

Of course, we're definitely no saints. We play a part in ruining our environment as well. For eg the use of air-condition (Mom has decided to slp w/o aircon anymore, which is really hot for us, but we just withstand it with Mom & Dad =] ), driving a car (having a car is mainly because of us, it is hard to bring dogs around Singapore w/o your own mode of transport & Mom's car's mileage is extremely low as she tries not to drive that much & uses public transport instead whenever she can. Mom drives WITHOUT aircon 90% of the time) etc. So in that sense, we can all play a part in REDUCING these harmful everyday acts.

Another of Mom's beliefs is Intuitive (Animal) Communication. That all animals, plants, micro-organisms, & elements are conscious.

There's alot more things about Mom & her beliefs, but we'll end here for now (or maybe add on to it when we've more time). Here's one of Mom's fav. quotes to end it off.

"The pyramids, the Old masters, the symphonies, sculpture, architecture, film, photography... All of these things are worthless to the Earth when compared with any one species of bird, or insect, or plant. The life of a human being is worth less than the life of a worm."

Paul Watson (Captain of the Steve Irwin, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society)

What is your EarthEcho? Everything you do makes a difference.
